| Garfield Medical Center’s Emergency Room provides 24-hour emergency care year round and is staffed with local physicians and physicians’ assistants with special emergency medicine and Advanced Critical Care Life Support (ACLS) training. This team is supported by Garfield’s own nursing staff—with at least five working in each 12-hour shift. The ER’s three trauma rooms offer state-of-the-art equipment in the campus’s 2002-constructed modern building, with 21 private patient rooms serving about half of Garfield’s approximately 40,000 annual outpatient visits. MISSION & PROCEDURES The mission of the ER Department is to provide consistently high-quality care to all emergency patients, to fully address all patients’ and patients’ families’ needs, and to commence immediate treatment for all emergencies. A designated triage nurse is always on staff and every person presented to the ER is assessed by a medical professional within 15-20 minutes of their arrival, and is then treated in either the fast track or standard ER area. OFF SPECIAL INTEREST In 2007, Garfield received approval from the LA County Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMS) as an ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center. This makes Garfield one of the hand-picked hospitals recognized for the excellence and timeliness of its care for true heart-attack patients.
