Garfield Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) treats infants of high-risk conditions such as premature labor and birth; preeclampsia; placenta previa and other emergency situations. We also treat and deliver multiples and infants with infections or respiratory illnesses. Our specially trained NICU staff of over 60 sees to all facets of high-risk deliveries and newborn care, with neonatologists on staff and on-call and 24-hour anesthesiologists in house. The NICU offers on-site X-rays, ventilators, CT, MRI, lab, echocardiograms, eye exams—everything required for excellent care. Neonatal surgeries are referred elsewhere and transferred, with a specially trained team accompanying the transport. Occupational therapists are also available 7 days a week for feeding consultations, sensory problems, and hearing screenings.
