Garfield Medical Center Designated as a STEMI Receiving Center effective June 1, 2007 Effective June 1, 2007, Garfield Medical Center will operate as an ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Receiving Center (SRC). This designation and approval comes from the Los Angeles County Emergency Services Agency. ST Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is defined as a myocardial infarction that generates ST-segment elevation on the pre hospital 12-lead EKG. A STEMI Receiving Center (SRC) is a facility licensed for cardiac catheterization laboratory and cardiovascular surgery by the State Department of Health Services, and approval comes from the Los Angeles County EMS Agency. On June 1, Garfield Medical Center held a press conference on campus to announce the designation as an SRC. Dignitaries from the City of Monterey Park and the City of Alhambra were present, as well as Honorable Assemblyman Mike Eng. Members of the Monterey Park and Alhambra paramedic units were present as well as Michelle Ocon, Director of Emergency Room, Mike Craig, Director of Radiology and Bruce Lopez, Cath Lab Manager. Dr. Ming Lu Huang and Dr. Michael Yeh were present to speak about the SRC designation. Philip Cohen, CEO, Erik Jiang, COO and Shirley Tang, CNO were also present for this event. Garfield Medical Center will now serve as an important community resource as an SRC.
